FEYNLAB Certified No Fault Warranty Since 2017 BBB A+ Rating Updated August 2026

Truck paint protection film is a clear urethane layer applied to the panels of a pickup or full-size SUV that take rock strike first. At our Deer Valley shop off I-17, we install STEK DYNOshield on F-Series, Silverado, Ram, Sierra, Tundra, Tahoe, Expedition and Suburban bodies — the vehicles that collect the most chips on Phoenix freeways.

A full-size truck is not a large car, and filming one is not the same job. The front fascia stands nearly vertical instead of raking back, so it meets debris head-on rather than deflecting it. The wheelbase is longer, which throws tire spray further down the rocker panels. And since 2015 the Ford F-150 and Super Duty have used aluminum alloy body panels, which dent and scuff differently to the steel most film patterns were originally cut for.

Key Takeaways

  • Trucks take chips lower and wider than cars. The tall front end and long wheelbase expose the bumper, rocker panels and bed sides that a sedan simply does not present to the road.
  • I-17 is the worst stretch in the Valley for it. Our shop sits directly on it, and the trucks we see come in chipped across the bumper and lower doors.
  • STEK DYNOshield is 8 mil and self-healing. Light swirls close up with heat — sun, warm water or a heat gun.
  • Two warranties, not one. Ten years on the film, plus our No Fault Warranty covering any replacement, any time, for any reason.

Why Phoenix Trucks Lose Paint Faster

Rock chips in the Valley are not random. They cluster on the freeway corridors where trucks spend the most time, and I-17 — the road our Deer Valley shop sits on — is the one we see most often on incoming vehicles. Loop 101, Loop 303 and US-60 produce the same pattern: a scatter of chips across the bumper, the leading edge of the hood, and the lower doors.

Then there is the climate. From mid-June to the end of September, haboobs push fine desert dust across the Valley at highway speed, which micro-abrades paint rather than chipping it. Add surface temperatures over 150°F and year-round UV, and unprotected clear coat on a work truck ages noticeably faster than the same paint would in a milder state. Paint protection film takes that damage instead of the paint.

Trucks bought for towing, job sites or desert weekends see all of it at once. That is why the coverage that matters on a truck sits low and forward, not across the roof.

What We Cover On A Truck Or Full-Size SUV

Coverage is chosen by where your truck actually collects damage. The panels below are the ones that take the most strike on a Phoenix pickup.

Coverage Panels included Best for
Partial front Front bumper, partial hood, partial fenders, mirrors Commuter trucks that mostly see paved freeway miles
Full front Front bumper, full hood, full fenders, mirrors, headlights The most common choice on an F-250 or Expedition — no seam across the hood
Full front plus rockers Everything above, plus rocker panels and lower doors Crew cabs and long-wheelbase trucks that throw spray down the sides
Full body Every painted panel, including bed sides and tailgate New deliveries, towing rigs and trucks headed for resale or auction

Extra pieces matter more on trucks than on cars. Tow mirrors, running boards, fender flares, bed rails and the tailgate step are all separate coverage decisions, and all of them get handled or scuffed in normal use. Loading a tailgate is the single most reliable way to wear through paint on an otherwise clean truck.

Truck PPF, Ceramic Coating Or Both

These are not competing products. Film is physical armour with thickness; ceramic coating is a chemical layer measured in microns. Only one of them stops a rock.

  Paint protection film Ceramic coating
Stops rock chips Yes — 8 mil of urethane No
Self-heals light swirls Yes, with heat No
Repels water and dust Yes Yes
UV and oxidation defence Yes Yes
Typical placement Impact panels: front, rockers, bed sides Every painted panel

Most truck owners who want both put film on the impact panels and a ceramic coating over the whole vehicle, including on top of the film. If you are weighing the two, our guide to what PPF costs in Phoenix breaks the decision down further.

Two Warranties On Every Truck We Film

10-year warranty on STEK clear bra paint protection film.

No Fault Warranty on every paint protection project — it covers ANY PPF REPLACEMENT, ANY TIME, for ANY REASON, with an UNLIMITED number of replacements, in addition to the manufacturer warranty.

If a rock takes a chunk out of the film on your bumper the week after install, it is covered. That is the whole point of it.

Questions Truck Owners Ask

Is PPF worth it for a truck?

For a truck that sees freeway miles in the Valley, generally yes. Trucks present a tall, flat front end to the road and collect chips faster than cars do, and repainting a bumper or hood costs considerably more than filming it. The case is strongest on a new truck, where you are protecting undamaged factory paint and resale value at the same time.

How much does PPF cost for a truck?

Truck coverage costs more than the same package on a sedan, because the panels are physically larger and the job uses more film. Price depends on the coverage you choose and the size of the truck — a partial front on a half-ton and a full body on a dually are very different jobs. What is the downside of PPF?

Cost is the main one — it is a bigger investment than a coating or a wax. Film also has edges, and on a truck those edges sit where they can be handled, so the wrap technique around the bed and tailgate matters. Poorly installed film can lift or discolour over time, which is exactly what the 10-year film warranty and our No Fault Warranty exist to cover.

Can I take a truck with PPF through a car wash?

Hand washing is always the safer choice. Touchless washes are generally fine once the film has fully cured; brush washes are the ones to avoid, because spinning bristles catch film edges. Wait until the film has cured before the first wash — see our guide on how soon you can wash your vehicle after PPF.

Do you film aluminum-body Ford trucks differently?

The film and the adhesive are the same, but the panel prep matters. F-150 and Super Duty bodies have used aluminum alloy since 2015, and those panels show handling marks and scuffs more readily than steel. Every panel gets decontaminated and prepped before any film is laid down, on any truck.

How long does truck paint protection film last in Arizona?

STEK DYNOshield carries a 10-year warranty, and that is the figure to plan around in this climate. Phoenix sun is harder on film than a milder climate is, which is why the film warranty and the No Fault Warranty both matter here. Our write-up on how PPF looks after five years in Phoenix shows what real-world ageing looks like locally.
